About museum

In a valley between the mountains lies the old village of Aksakovo, founded in the 18th century by Stepan Mikhailovich Aksakov. Here have been preserved the manor park, the Lake of Love, the Buguruslan River, and the pond with Chelyaev Hill. On the estate grounds there are courtyard wings, outbuildings, cellars with storage vaults. In 1998 the Aksakov house was restored from thick pine logs with two ceremonial porches and a gazebo-rotunda. The house-museum houses authentic Aksakov belongings and items from that period, as well as photographs, documents, and the books of S. T. Aksakov. The exhibition reflects pages of the writer's life, including his children — Konstantin, Vera, Olga, Ivan, and Grigory. Here one can feel the atmosphere of provincial landowners of the 19th century and understand how S. T. Aksakov's ancestors lived.
