A. N. Ostrovsky House-Museum
About museum
In 1984 a museum was opened in the house where A. N. Ostrovsky was born. The wooden house is a cultural monument of the early 19th century and is located in Zamoskvorechye — one of the rare parts of Moscow where the charm of old domestic life has been preserved. A lush garden surrounds the house, offering a variety of flowers from spring to autumn. Inside the house, subdued, soft light emphasizes the atmosphere of a measured way of life. The museum's collection consists of Ostrovsky's personal belongings, items of Russian material culture, and exhibits reflecting the history of Moscow. The exhibition is devoted to theatrical productions of Ostrovsky's plays and features set and costume sketches, photographic portraits of actors, manuscripts, and posters. The museum hosts children's celebrations and tours, and a Christmas tree is put up every year. Everyone who visits Ostrovsky's house-museum will take away unforgettable impressions of this beautiful place and its history.
