Kurkinsky Local History Museum
About museum
On January 1, 2004 the Kurkinsky Local History Museum was established, transformed from the Room of Military Glory and Local History at the Department of Culture of the Kurkinsky District Administration. The museum holds 1,760 items. It has two halls: the hall of the region's military history and the hall of history and ethnography. The first features archival documents, original letters, rare photographs, wartime items, and elements of soldiers' uniforms and equipment. The second hall reconstructs a Russian izba from the late 19th–early 20th century with household and interior items, and also displays examples of national costume. The exhibition includes themes such as "L. N. Tolstoy and the Kurkinsky Region" and "Famous Names in the Region's History." The museum hosts the "Vernissage of Local Artists" and a number of temporary exhibitions that convey the district's history from its founding to the present.
