About museum

The Arkhangelskoye estate became famous as the 'Moscow Versailles' thanks to its neoclassical palace-and-park ensemble and its extremely rich art collections. It belonged to the Golitsyn princes from the late 17th century, and from 1810 until 1917 it was owned by Prince N. B. Yusupov and his descendants. The estate's construction was carried out by the architects Gern, Trombaro, Petondi, Gonzaga, Bové and Klein. The painting collection includes works by A. van Dyck, D. B. Tiepolo, F. Boucher, J. Robert and other Western European artists of the 17th–19th centuries. In addition, the decorative and applied arts collection contains artistic bronze, clocks, furniture, products of the Yusupov porcelain factory and other European manufactories of the 18th–19th centuries. The holdings also include a collection of rare sculptures from the 7th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Particularly important and revered is the rare books collection, which consists of more than 16 thousand volumes of Russian and Western European editions of the 16th–19th centuries.
