Pyotr Shestakov. View of Arkhangelskoye from the South, 1857

The artist Pyotr Andreyevich Shestakov (1805/1806 – after 1860) painted this view of the Arkhangelskoye estate from the south in 1857. The work is painted in oil on canvas.

By that time the estate had belonged to the Yusupovs for almost half a century: Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov bought it in 1810. In 1837 his son Boris Nikolayevich moved a large and the finest part of the family collection to the new palace on the Moika in St Petersburg, and in 1851 the inheritance passed to the grandson, Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov the Younger.
