Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore
About museum
The idea of creating a museum in Tomsk came to the city's intelligentsia at the beginning of the 20th century. After an inspection of the Archierey House on February 14, 1920, a decision was made to open a Museum of Antiquities and the Revolution there. On March 18, 1922, the first exhibition was opened in the former mansion of a gold industrialist. On September 1, 1922, M. B. Shatilov was appointed director, the person after whom the museum is named today. In October of the same year the museum received the name 'Tomsk Regional Museum'. Today it offers a wide range of services and programs, conducts interactive events for audiences of different ages, and publishes scientific publications and collections. The museum serves as a methodological center for museum work for all museums of Tomsk Oblast.
