Alexander Alexandrovich Kiselyov was a Russian landscape painter, an active participant of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki), an academician and a full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Alexander Alexandrovich Kiselyov was born in Sveaborg (now a district of Helsinki). Having not completed his education at the cadet corps, he entered the historical-philological faculty of the Imperial St. Petersburg University. After the temporary closure of the university in 1861, related to student protests, he became an auditor at the Imperial Academy of Arts, and in 1862 he was admitted to S. M. Vorobyov's class. For the painting 'A View in the Novgorod Governorate' Kiselyov received the academy's large silver medal. In 1865 he made his debut at the Academic Exhibition: the landscape 'View from the Surroundings of Moscow' received favorable reviews. In the same year he graduated from the Academy of Arts and received the title of class artist of the 3rd degree

Soon Kiselyov moved to Kharkov, where he took a position as secretary of the Land Bank to support his family: his wife and three children. Working at the bank provided a stable income and opportunities for painting. In 1875 his painting 'View in the Surroundings of Kharkov' was accepted by the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions. On March 7, 1876, Kiselyov joined the Association and became a regular participant in the Peredvizhniki exhibitions.

In 1877 Kiselyov moved to Moscow with his family, but he continued to travel extensively across Russia, creating various studies for his paintings depicting Russian nature. Later he produced a successful series of Caucasus landscapes. By the time the artist settled in Moscow, he already had seven children. He began teaching drawing in girls' gymnasiums and giving private lessons.

In 1902 Kiselyov built a house in Tuapse, captivated by the beauty of the local landscapes. In 1911 the artist's life was tragically cut short by a sudden heart attack.
