Porfiry Nikitich Krylov was a People's Artist of the USSR, an honorary citizen of Tula, a laureate of the Lenin and USSR State Prizes, and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Porfiry Nikitich Krylov, a native of Tula and a member of the famous artistic trio Kukryniksy, became renowned not only for his collaborative works but also for his striking individual art. He worked in the genres of painting, graphic arts and book illustration. Krylov's subject matter is exceptionally broad, and his artistic explorations are distinguished by depth and originality, regardless of genre.
Landscapes held a special place in the artist's work. The numerous canvases created during his travels across Russia and abroad are notable for their variety of moods and impressions. However, Krylov's native region remained the most important to him. The landscapes of Yasnaya Polyana, Polenovo and Oka River motifs served as sources of inspiration and creative joy. Porfiry Nikitich Krylov passed away on May 15, 1990. A substantial collection of P.N. Krylov's works is kept in Tula.
