About museum

Grigory Vasilyevich Tetyushinov – a Russian merchant of the 1st guild, entrepreneur, philanthropist and honorary citizen. Tetyushinov was born on September 18, 1826, into a townsman family that had no merchant roots.

In 1850 he began commercial activity, and by 1854 he headed his own steamship company «Tetyushinov & Co.», which specialized in cargo transportation along the Volga. During the same period he founded the first shipyard in Astrakhan for the construction of metal vessels, where steamships and barges with iron hulls were built.

For forty years Tetyushinov was engaged in shipbuilding and transportation, fishing in the Caspian Sea, wine trading and oil refining. On December 12, 1872, for his impeccable twenty years of service in the 1st merchant guild, he was granted honorary citizenship.
