Museum of the History of the Defense of the Adzhimushkay Quarries
About museum
\r\nThe Adzhimushkay quarries are the greatest testament to the battle glory of the Hero City of Kerch. In May 1942, Red Army soldiers demonstrated immense moral strength and devotion to their homeland while defending the Akmonaysky Isthmus from a Nazi attack. Surrounded by enemies, Soviet forces decided to repel the enemy and withdraw into the underground quarries, where a garrison of 10,000 fighters was formed. For 170 days and nights the Red Army soldiers remained faithful to their oath and fought fiercely, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. In 1965 a decision was made to immortalize this feat, and in 1967 a memorial and museum were opened. The Adzhimushkay quarries are the greatest monument to the combat glory and heroism of the Red Army.
