Starocherkassk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve
About museum
\r\nIn 1970 the Starocherkassk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve was established on the basis of a complex of architectural monuments of the Lower Don from the 17th–19th centuries. The initiative came from M. A. Sholokhov. The museum holds 68,000 exhibits, including 57,000 in the main collection. It comprises 26 collections, many of which contain rarities. Most items relate to everyday life and ethnography and reflect the working life of the Don Cossacks. Unique items were donated to the museum free of charge by residents of the stanitsa of Starocherkassk, as well as by museums across Russia. The museum hosts more than 20 exhibitions each year from its own collections and from Russian museums. Historical displays, tourist routes and events for visitors of different age groups are also organized. The museum receives over 110,000 visitors annually.
