Museum and Local History Complex 'Zolotaryov Manor'
About museum
Numerous cultural and educational events, programs, lectures and concerts are held at the museum. The Provincial Historical Museum was founded by members of the Kaluga Scholarly Archival Commission and opened to visitors in 1897 in a 17th-century architectural monument — the chambers of the Korobov merchants. In 1922 the Kaluga Regional Museum of Local Lore moved to the former city estate of merchant I. M. Zolotaryov, built in 1805–1808. The manor house is notable for its wall and ceiling paintings, highly artistic bas-reliefs and an inlaid floor, all produced by the Moscow art workshop of S. P. Campioni. The museum's halls contain two exhibition departments: the history and the nature of the Kaluga region. The museum hosts cultural and educational events, various programs, lectures and concerts. Recent history is presented under the theme 'Events of the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the region.' Visitors can gain an incredible insight into the past of the Kaluga region by visiting this museum.
