Morshansk Historical and Art Museum named after P. P. Ivanov
About museum
The Morshansk Museum is one of the first Soviet people's museums, founded on April 10, 1918. The founder and first director of the museum was the artist and archaeologist P. P. Ivanov. The museum's collection comprises 32,400 exhibits, including monuments to the history of the Morshansk uyezd, artifacts of medieval Mordvin tribes, folk wooden sculpture, objects of provincial merchant life and of the noble manor household, monuments of Orthodox culture from the 14th–20th centuries, as well as works of art in various styles and movements. The museum hosts exhibitions dedicated to the Orthodox culture of the Morshansk region, the artistic culture and everyday life of the Morshansk estate, the earliest history of the Morshansk region, and Morshansk archaeology.
