Lenino-Snegirevsky Military-Historical Museum
About museum
On May 9, 1967, at the 42nd kilometer of the Volokolamskoye Highway a memorial was unveiled dedicated to the valiant soldiers of the 16th Army who stopped the advance of the German troops. A T-34-85 tank and concrete pyramid markers have been installed there, and an inscription is displayed on a granite pedestal. The museum is located in the building of a former school; its founder was Igor Vladimirovich Usanevich. The exhibition is dedicated to the 16th Army under the command of K. K. Rokossovsky. The museum also displays documents and materials on the combat history of the Istra district and the Great Patriotic War. The museum complex includes two outdoor exhibition areas: a tank platform and a military-memorial cemetery with the grave of twice Hero of the Soviet Union A. P. Beloborodov. The museum is situated at the 41st kilometer of the Volokolamskoye Highway — in the defensive belt near Moscow. The memorial's authors are architect S. Nekrasov and engineer R. Nesvizhskaya. This site was not chosen by chance; here, in the grim days of autumn 1941, the enemy army was stopped.
