Saint Petersburg State Museum 'Tsarskoye Selo Collection'
About museum
Since February 8, 1991 the museum has actively organized exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Over 25 years more than 300 exhibitions were organized in museums and cultural centers of Saint Petersburg, Murmansk, Cheboksary, Kostroma, as well as in the twin towns of Pushkin. The museum's collection contains more than 5,000 paintings and graphic works. The main exhibits of the 'Tsarskoye Selo Collection' are works of the Leningrad avant-garde from the 1920s-1990s of the 20th century, created by V. Sterligov, M. Matyushin, V. Ermolayeva, L. Yudin, K. Rozhdestvensky and P. Basmanov. These works can be described as 'painterly-plastic realism'. In addition, the museum presents works by masters of the Moscow avant-garde: V. Chekrygin, B. Ender, D. Mitrokhin, T. Mavrina and D. Daran. A separate place is occupied by the 'Arefyev Circle' — one of the earliest art communities of the Leningrad underground. Here you can view works by A. Arefyev, R. Vasmi, Sh. Shvarts, V. Shagin and V. Gromov.
