About museum
The V. A. Tropinin Museum and Moscow Artists of His Time is one of the best-known museums in Moscow. It was founded in 1969 by the well-known Moscow collector F. E. Vishnevsky, who donated to the city a house with a mezzanine and 250 works of art. Today the museum's collection consists of about 3,000 works, most of which were created in the period from the first third of the 18th century to the mid-19th century. A distinctive feature of the museum is its large collection of works by V. A. Tropinin, as well as works by other outstanding artists of the past, such as I. Ya. Vishnyakov, I. P. Argunov, A. P. Antropov, F. S. Rokotov, D. G. Levitsky, V. L. Borovikovsky, S. F. Shchedrin and S. S. Shchukin. The museum's holdings also include works by famous 19th-century masters such as I. K. Aivazovsky, A. N. Benois, V. M. Vasnetsov, I. I. Levitan, K. A. Korovin, D. Polenov, and others. The museum's particular charm is its intimacy, which helps preserve the atmosphere of an old Moscow house.
