Sergievsky Local History Museum
About museum
In the mid-19th century the merchant Smirnov built the building that housed the local history museum. He lived in one wing, while his trading hall was located in the other. During the Soviet era Smirnov was arrested but managed to go into hiding and flee to Siberia. After his death, in the 1970s his son came to Sergievsk to pay respects to his native land and home. At the beginning of the 1920s the former Smirnov house became a people's house where meetings and events were held. In 1993, on the anniversary of Sergievsk, the local history museum was opened. Today it is not only a place to view exhibits and displays, but also a center for patriotic education. The events held at the museum instill love for one's native homeland, a sense of the beautiful, love for the surrounding world, and pride in those who built all of this.
