Boris Ivanovich Prorokov – a Soviet and Russian artist, a master of satire and agitational-political graphics. He was born on May 9, 1911 in Ivanovo-Voznesensk. From 1929 to 1931 he studied at VKhUTEIN (Higher Art and Technical Institute) under the well-known artists L. A. Bruni, D. S. Moor and P. Ya. Pavlinov. In 1936 he continued his education at the Institute for Advanced Training of Artists.
From 1929 Prorokov created drawings and caricatures for the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" and the magazine "Krokodil." He was a member of the artists' collective "Windows of TASS" and a military artist for the Main Political Directorate of the Navy (1941–1945). After the war, the struggle for peace became the main theme of his work.
In the 1950s–1960s Boris Prorokov produced numerous works, among which three series of easel graphics gained worldwide recognition: "Americans in Europe" (1952), "This Must Not Happen Again" (1958–1959), "To the Son" (1969–1970). Boris Ivanovich Prorokov passed away in Moscow on September 19, 1972. His memoirs and diary entries were posthumously published under the title "About Time and About Myself" (1979).
