Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov – a great Russian commander, the founder of Russian military theory, a holder of all the Russian orders of his time, as well as several foreign ones. Suvorov's childhood was spent on his father's estate. Despite poor health, the boy prepared for a military career from an early age.

In 1742 he began service in the Semenovsky Regiment, while studying at the Land Cadet Corps and pursuing self-education. A significant influence on the formation of his personality was a family friend of the Suvorovs and the great‑grandfather of the poet A.S. Pushkin – General Abram Gannibal. The Seven Years' War hardened the future commander. He began with rear (logistical) service and quickly advanced up the career ladder, so already in 1762 he received the rank of colonel and was given command of several regiments.

Suvorov scored a number of victories over the Poles, was promoted to major general and awarded the Order of Saint Anna, and later the Order of Saint George. The Russo‑Turkish wars became the pinnacle of his military career. Despite temporary censure by Catherine II for the capture of a garrison, Suvorov was pardoned and proved himself a brilliant strategist and tactician. He achieved victories in key battles, including the Battle of Kinburn, the assault on Izmail and the Battle of Rymnik.

During the Polish uprising of 1794 Suvorov's troops stormed Prague. Under Paul I the commander took part in the Italian campaign of 1799, and then in the Swiss campaign. However, his triumphant return to Russia was overshadowed by a sudden illness. Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov died on May 6, 1800 in Saint Petersburg and was buried in the Annunciation Church of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
