N. N. Palmov National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia
About museum
On March 25, 1921 the N. N. Palmov National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia was founded — the only place where one can fully present the history, culture and art of the Kalmyk people. The museum's establishment was initiated by professors N. N. Palmov and P. S. Rykov, who collected rich archaeological and ethnographic materials. Today the museum houses over 80,000 items in its collections. The exhibitions present the history, ethnography and culture of the Kalmyk people, items of Buddhist worship and Old Kalmyk art, as well as contemporary visual art of Kalmykia. The National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia is an integral part of the republic's historical and artistic culture and serves as an example for the museum community of Kalmykia.
