Tashtagol Museum of Ethnography and Nature of Mountain Shoria
About museum
In the 1980s an initiative was conceived in the town of Tashtagol to create a museum of the history of the mining association "Sibruda". An official decision was made only in 1987, but the museum did not become industrial. Instead, a wave of the national movement of the Shor people led to the creation of a museum of Shor history and culture. In 1989 premises were allocated to the museum, and Nadezhda Alekseevna Shikhaleva was appointed director. Between 1990 and 1994, 18 ethnographic expeditions were conducted, and the museum was opened on May 5, 1995. During its existence the museum has held more than 130 exhibitions in the Kemerovo Region and in Khakassia. The museum became the only cultural and educational center in the south of Kuzbass, with an active exhibition program presenting projects across Russia.
