The Department of Manuscripts and Book Monuments of the Tomsk State University Scientific Library has, since 1945, served as an exhibition space known as the Book Museum. It houses editions noted for their rarity and special value, as well as manuscripts, archival documents and visual materials of scientific, historical and cultural significance. The book collection of the TSU Scientific Library was formed in 1880 after the founding of the first university in Siberia. Among the particularly valuable collections are the library of Count Stroganov, the book collections of Prince Golitsyn, the poet Zhukovsky, Professor and Censor Nikitenko, Minister Valuev, the scholar and traveler Potanin, and others. The Book Museum offers guided tours and other recreational events.
