Photographic Museum 'Metenkov House'
About museum
The only photographic museum in the Urals was founded in 1993. At that time its holdings consisted of the private collection of local historian and photographer Yevgeny Biryukov. Today the collections of Metenkov House reflect a century and a half of the development of photographic art in Yekaterinburg.
Gradually the museum has become a multifunctional art space where not only exhibitions are organized but also lectures, master classes, round tables, portfolio reviews, creative meetings, film screenings, concerts, performances and other cultural events. At the same time, the historical exhibitions at Metenkov House are combined with projects by contemporary photographers, showcasing a modern view of visual art and the search for new methods of image representation. Classical exhibition solutions coexist with multimedia experiments that convey an impression of the rapidly changing contemporary photographic environment. On its platform Metenkov House carries out international projects in the field of photography, cooperating with cultural institutions from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and their representations in Russia.
