About museum
On November 27, 1981, on the basis of the public historical-revolutionary museum, the Nizhnekolymsk Museum of History and Culture of the Peoples of the North was established as a branch of the Yakutsk United Museum named after E.M. Yaroslavsky. In 1983 one of the best exhibitions of the Arctic zone was created here; it existed for 20 years. In October 2002 the museum moved to another building, where a unique exhibition was created, including departments of nature, culture and everyday life of the small indigenous peoples of the North, the material culture of the region's indigenous peoples, and a historical section with rotating exhibitions, among which the most interesting is "The Polar Point of the GULag".
