Zheleznogorsk City Local History Museum
About museum
Zheleznogorsk City Local History Museum was established by a decree of the head of the city administration in 1992. Initially it was located in a small building of the former Pupils' Room. In 1994 visitors were able to view its exhibition. Since January 8, 1997 the museum has been housed in a two-story building, and the exhibition area amounts to 892.2 sq. m. The museum's holdings total more than 40,000 storage units, including various collections: paleontological, mineralogical, painting, graphic arts, and decorative-applied arts. The museum has four permanent exhibition halls: City History, Nature, Historical-Ethnographic, and Military Glory and Remembrance. In addition, there are three exhibition halls. Over 25 years more than 450,000 people — residents of Zheleznogorsk and guests of the city, including members of foreign delegations — have visited the museum's exhibition halls. Since 2006 the museum has been an annual participant in the International Museum Festival "Intermuseum".
