Tazovsky District Local History Museum
About museum
Tazovsky District Local History Museum was established more than 20 years ago at the initiative of the local community. It plays an important role in the cultural life of the district, serving as both a cultural and scientific center. It preserves monuments of natural history and of material and spiritual culture connected with the people, history and nature of the Tazovsky District. The museum organizes cultural and educational events to help people understand each other, as well as the principles of developing the northern territories of Yamal. In addition, the museum takes part in fundamental scientific research in cooperation with leading scientific centers of Russia, such as the Institute of Problems of Development of the North of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Scientific and Production Association "Northern Archaeology" from Nefteyugansk, and the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics from Moscow.
