Novomoskovsk Historical and Art Museum
About museum
The Museum of the History of the city of Novomoskovsk was opened on May 8, 1966. It is a major center of industry and economy of Tula Oblast, whose history begins in 1930, when one of the largest chemical plants in the USSR was built. The museum's exhibition halls include: 'Peasant Life', 'Noble Household', 'Great Patriotic War'. A BM-13 (Katyusha) rocket launcher that took part in the liberation of the city in 1941 is installed near the museum building. You can also visit the memorial room of the prominent Soviet poet Yaroslav Vasilyevich Smelyakov. The museum hosts art exhibitions by both Novomoskovsk artists and well-known artists from other regions of Russia. The museum's collections contain more than 27,000 storage units. It also has two structural subdivisions — the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of the History of the village of Spasskoye. The Archaeological Museum presents the history of the Tula region from ancient times to the 19th century, and also hosts art exhibitions.
