Demidov Dacha Estate Museum
About museum
Demidov Dacha is the youngest museum in the museum-reserve system; it was opened on September 23, 2013. It is located in a building that is the only example in Nizhny Tagil of a private country estate from the first half of the 19th century. It was built in the style of Classicism with Neo-Gothic elements and was supplemented in the last third of the 19th century with elements of the Neo-Russian style. The district where this building stands was named after A. N. Demidov's wife, Princess Mathilde de Montfort. It was constructed after 1837 but no later than the mid-1840s. The architect is unknown. In Soviet times the dacha was transferred to railway workers and housed various institutions. It is also associated with the prominent Russian engineer, inventor, and production reformer Fotii Ilyich Shvetsov, who had it built for himself.
