Narva Triumphal Gates
About museum
The Narva Gates are the main triumphal monument in Petersburg, dedicated to Russia's victories in the war against Napoleon's army. In 1814 a wooden triumphal arch was built, and in 1834, to a design by architect V. P. Stasov, stone gates were constructed, elegantly clad in copper. The sculptural decoration of the gates was executed by the finest masters of the 19th century. In the attic of the gates there is an exhibition hall where temporary exhibitions are held devoted to Russia's military history, as well as to the history of art and culture. The Narva Gates are a distinctive monument to a great victory and a symbol of Russia's eternal glory.
