Museum 'Simbirsk Meteorological Station. Planetarium'
About museum
The 'Simbirsk Meteorological Station' Museum was opened in 1998. It is the only museum of its kind in Russia presenting a unified collection of instruments, historical documents and books on meteorology and medicine. The exhibition tells the story of the establishment and development of national meteorological science, as well as about outstanding climatologists. The museum displays 19th-century meteorological instruments, a meteorological observation site where observations are carried out, and a mini-planetarium with a dome and globes of the Earth, Moon and Mars, a model of the planetary system, a sighting tube and a telescope. The museum also exhibits an extraordinary item — a Sikhote-Alin iron meteorite weighing about 6.5 kg. The museum is a member of the Association of Planetariums of Russia and the International Planetarium Society. Visitors can also learn about the activities of Peter I, M. V. Lomonosov, D. I. Mendeleev and A. I. Voeykov, as well as the scientific works of Academician G. I. Vild.
