The Museum of Cosmonautics is one of the largest science-and-technology museums in the world, established in 1964 in Moscow. It was founded after the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the first living creatures and the first human into space. In 1981 the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics was opened in the stylobate of the monument. In 2009, after reconstruction, it was presented to the public with extensive exhibition space and a collection of more than 100,000 items. It includes 8 halls, a cinema hall and a conference hall. The exhibits include spacesuits, artificial satellites, and probes for studying the Moon and the planets of the Solar System. The museum holds popular lectures and conferences and also supports research projects. It has become an important place for educational activities, bringing humanity closer to space.
