Rzhev Local History Museum
About museum
The Rzhev Museum was founded in 1916 and became a historical and archaeological museum the following year. The main components of its collections were the ethnographic, archaeological and art collections of M. S. Vorobyov, as well as archaeological materials collected by P. F. Simson. In 1977 the Rzhev Museum became a branch of the Kalinin State United Museum. In 2005 a diorama titled 'The Rzhev Battle of 1942–1943', dedicated to the military history of the region, was opened here. In honor of the museum's 90th anniversary, a local history exhibition devoted to Rzhev's ancient history was created in an 18th-century merchant's house. The museum displays authentic documents and relics from the battlefields, as well as the diorama 'The Fight for Rzhev, 24 September 1942'. All this allows the history of the Rzhev region to be presented truthfully and accurately.
