Vesyegonsk Local History Museum
About museum
In 1919 A. A. Vinogradov — a teacher, archaeologist and advocate of museology — took part in establishing the Vesyegonsk Local History Museum together with other district museums of the Tver Governorate as part of the nationalization of cultural valuables and household items from noble estates. However, in 1939 the museum was temporarily closed due to the construction of the Rybinsk Reservoir and the relocation of the town. Thanks to committed people, the efforts of A. A. Vinogradov and the district authorities, the Vesyegonsk museum was reopened in 1967. It offers visitors a fairly extensive and thematically diverse exhibition, which consists of a rich collection of ethnographic materials, archaeological finds by A. A. Vinogradov, and the exhibition 'Symbols of the town of Vesyegonsk', known as the 'River Crayfish Museum'. In addition, the museum houses a temporarily closed exhibition 'From Vesyegonsk to Florida', dedicated to P. A. Dementyev — a zemstvo official.
