An exhibition by the well-known Nizhny Novgorod graphic artist Mikhail Dutsev has opened at NGHM | RUSSIAN ART (Nizhny Novgorod, Kremlin, building 3). He presented works created over the past 5 years. Many of the works are being shown for the first time.

The exhibition is not timed to any particular date and is not a report for a specific period. The aim of this intimate project is to tell the story of the creative world of this unique master.

Mikhail Viktorovich Dutsev was born in 1979 in Nizhny Novgorod into a family of architects. From 1985 to 1996 he studied at the art studio of the V.P. Chkalov Palace of Children's Creativity under the guidance of teachers I.S. Solovyeva and V.A. Sergeev. In 2002 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of NNGASU and began teaching in the Department of Architectural Design.
He has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 2005.

He holds a Doctor of Architecture degree; he is head of the Department of Architectural Environment Design, professor at the Department of Architectural Design at NNGASU, professor at the Department of Architecture of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), leading researcher at the Research Institute of Theory and History of Architecture and Urban Planning — a branch of the FSBI "TsNIIP of the Ministry of Construction of Russia" (NIITIAG), advisor to the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAASN), academician of the National Academy of Design, and a corresponding member of the International Academy of Culture and Art. His research interests include artistic integration in contemporary architecture and architects' creative methods.

In Nizhny Novgorod's artistic circles, Mikhail Dutsev is above all known as a master of pastel. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including large museum projects (Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, Sarov, Saransk, Cheboksary) as well as smaller, more intimate shows. He is a regular participant in major all-Russian exhibitions.

The exhibition 'Between Houses' gives viewers the chance to peer into the artist's complex world and follow the places that inspire him. These include the old city, the natural surroundings of dacha areas, and, finally, the studio where images are born and live. Another important part of the exhibition is works that the artist groups under the title 'graphic experiment.' This is neither a theme nor a section of the exhibition but a creative vector that provokes artistic exploration and the development of graphic art.

"Making yet another attempt to comprehend my art, I come to the conclusion that my subjects, motifs, and artistic approaches are largely dictated by my way of life. I live, in both the literal and figurative sense, 'between houses' — in constant motion, in the daily striving to return home, and in the ideal sense — to find a home," the author says about his creative life.

The exhibition opens a door into the multifaceted, dynamic world of the artist, giving viewers the opportunity to admire, reflect, doubt, and, most importantly, continue following the work of this talented master.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until November 4, 2024.
