Representatives from 11 regions will take part in the conference on the 200th anniversary of Petr Alabin

Event organized by the Kirov Regional Museum of Local Lore

In 2024 the 200th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Vyatka Public Museum (now the Kirov Regional Museum of Local Lore), Petr Vladimirovich Alabin, will be celebrated. To mark the anniversary of its founder and the 650th anniversary of the city of Kirov, in September the regional museum of local lore is organizing the All-Russian scientific and practical conference "Vyatka. Museum. Alabin", which will bring together specialists from the country's leading museums, teachers from general education institutions, and university lecturers.

To date, about 40 applications have been submitted to participate in the conference. Among them are not only residents of Kirov, but also representatives from 10 other regions of the country: the cities of Orenburg, Klin (Moscow Region), Saratov, Cheboksary, Arkhangelsk, Kozmodemyansk (Republic of Mari El), Samara, Kurgan, Syktyvkar, and Nizhny Novgorod. Colleagues' presentations are planned both in-person and remotely.

Representatives of Russian museums will discuss topical issues such as the preservation and promotion of museum collections, local history research and its role in regional development, shaping the image of the contemporary museum, and the role of museums in preserving spiritual and moral heritage and in patriotic education.

REFERENCE. Petr Alabin — an outstanding statesman and public figure, educator and man of letters — did much for the development of the Vyatka Governorate. It was on his initiative that the Vyatka Statistical Committee began collecting materials on the ethnography, history, and statistical description of the governorate. In 1863 Petr Vladimirovich Alabin proposed the creation of the first public museum in Vyatka, which opened in 1866. Today the Kirov Museum of Local Lore bears the name of P.V. Alabin.
