Volgograd offers a wide variety of events, some of which you can attend for free and have an interesting time.
Gorky Library.
The library hosts various weekly events: lectures, exhibitions, music evenings, film screenings, and master classes. You can attend most events for free provided you are a library patron. To register at the library you only need a passport; a library card is issued free of charge.
On February 14, for International Book Giving Day, there will be a traditional celebration for all book lovers. The library staff have prepared themed photo zones and themed book displays. Several master classes will take place that day:
"Boutonniere — A Message to the Heart" — a master class on composing a floral arrangement, 12:00–14:00. Catalog Hall.
A master class on making a book bookmark from 14:00 to 15:00. Catalog Hall.
Also, from 12:00 to 17:00 a literary lotto will take place in the rare editions section.
In the evening from 18:30 to 19:30 there will be a concert of contemporary music "Time."
On February 26, on the 340th anniversary of the births of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, there will be a concert "Great Masters" — classical works performed by students of VGIIK.
Library for Youth.
On February 15 an ethnographic festival "Chinese Legend" will take place. At 16:30 the evening will continue with a performance by Alina Laoshi, a teacher of Chinese and English. Alina Sergeevna will tell guests about New Year celebration traditions in the Celestial Empire and will hold a quiz on Chinese culture.
Throughout the evening there will be a photo zone where you can take pictures with invited cosplayers dressed as popular characters from Chinese animation, and later watch a cosplay showcase featuring them.
The evening will end with an introduction to the mysterious animated film "Goose Mountain" from the cycle "Legends of China." The animation is done in the style of Chinese painting, and the plot is deep and interpreted differently by each viewer.
Exhibition Hall on Krasnoznamenskaya Street.
Two exhibitions are on in February:
On the first floor — an exhibition of works from the regional competition among students of art schools (DKhSh) and children's art schools (DSHI) "Folklore Palette," established by DSHI No. 8.
On the second floor — the exhibition "Creative Nature," featuring works by students and teachers of the studio led by artist Alexandra Lyakh.
The exhibition hall is open from 9:00 to 18:30, closed on Mondays.
