The exhibition project is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of photographer A.M. Perevoshchikov and the 70th anniversary of the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk
On March 28, at the Main Building of the P.V. Alabin Kirov Regional Museum of Local History, the exhibition "Photo Art Before Photoshop" (0+) opened. In 2025 it will be 120 years since the birth of photographer Alexey Mikhailovich Perevoshchikov. A native of the village of Ust-Chepetsa, he later worked for many years in the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk. Perevoshchikov's photographic works gained wide recognition and acclaim not only in the USSR but also in many foreign countries in the 1950s.
Paying tribute to genre photography, Alexey Mikhailovich most fully revealed his talent in the field of artistic landscape photography. The local history museum displays more than 70 works by the master. In the black-and-white photographs the author captured all four seasons.
It is worth noting that at numerous exhibitions experts compared Perevoshchikov's photographs to works of art. At the same time, the shots were not subjected to any processing or retouching; the unique frames were achieved solely through the photographer's skill.
"We are confident that this exhibition will be of interest to people of different generations," said Yuri Balyberdin, director of the Regional Museum of Local History, at the opening. "In addition to the wonderful photographs, more than 30 of the most popular Soviet-era cameras are on display here, along with photo enlargers, and there is even a teaching photo laboratory. Contemporary young people will certainly be interested to learn how true works of photographic art were created without gadgets and modern digital technologies."
In addition to his photographs, Alexey Mikhailovich left a substantial epistolary legacy — notebooks totaling about 2,000 pages, which he called "Fragments of Thoughts." Many of his remarks about photography, nature, and the creativity of the photographic artist have become aphorisms. Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to familiarize themselves with them.
