Reviews of exhibitions at the Museum of Russian Impressionism have already appeared in my column. And I think there will be many more. These are the kinds of events you simply have to write about.
Right now the exhibition is "New Society of Artists", and it continues a series of shows about creative unions, of which there were many at the beginning of the 20th century.
At the origins of the "New Society" stood the Kardovskikh family. Both husband and wife were artists; they actively painted and drew themselves and brought contemporaries together around them. Importantly, they did so without imposing or promoting any particular style or idea, which seems very important to me. It is respect for the creator's taste, acceptance of their choice. Realists, illustrators, impressionists, and even avant-gardists! Why not be together, exhibit in the same spaces, support one another?
The exhibition contains many portraits across a wide range of genres, yet they are very distinctive portraits. Of course, this reflects the era and the fact that attention is increasingly focused on the individual. Everything that happens in the world is made by people. It's a timely reminder that we return to a hundred years later. Nationality, age, or group affiliation don't matter... Let's look at people, see them and hear them. The world will gain more mutual understanding from that.
Of course, there are beautiful landscapes and architectural sketches that evoke travel, unusual still lifes with exotic elements, and splendid interiors inhabited by well-dressed people — an echo of the previous exhibition, "Magazine of Beautiful Life." As usual, the lower and upper floors are given over to the exhibition space. It's easy to move between them on the large elevator. On the third floor a somewhat pricey but very pleasant café with friendly young staff continues to operate. The exhibition will run until the end of January, so if you come to Moscow for the New Year holidays you can definitely visit it.
