Samara Literary and Memorial Museum named after M. Gorky
About museum
Samara Literary and Memorial Museum named after M. Gorky was opened on June 18, 1941 in the house at 126 Razina Street. Gorky lived here in 1895. The museum is now located on Frunze Street, where Alexei Tolstoy lived from 1899 to 1901. The Tolstoy family archive forms the basis of the museum's permanent exhibition. The domestic interiors in the halls transport visitors to the atmosphere of a provincial town of the 19th–20th centuries. But the museum's interests are not limited to the Tolstoys. It collects information about 20th-century writers associated with Samara and the Volga region. It also studies contemporary literary processes and modern culture. In 2012 the project 'World — Text — Museum' won the competition 'The Changing Museum in a Changing World'. The museum hosts lectures, seminars and meetings dedicated to literature, art, architecture and photography. It also offers entertainment and educational programs for children, including an interactive exhibition based on A. N. Tolstoy's fairy tale 'The Golden Key'.
