Nikolai Vasilyevich Usenko

Nikolai Vasilyevich Usenko — Honored Forester of Russia, local historian and writer, scientist, and an honorary citizen of the town of Vyazemsky in Khabarovsk Krai. He was born at Vyazemskaya station into a family of Ukrainian settlers. In 1924, Usenko, being one of the top graduates of the Khabarovsk Pedagogical College, was sent to the Far Eastern University (Vladivostok) and enrolled in the forestry faculty.
He devoted his entire life to the study of the forests and plant life of the Far East. In 1950 Usenko initiated the establishment of the Vyazemsky Forestry Technical School. During his time at the school he trained more than two thousand forestry specialists. Nikolai Vasilyevich Usenko passed away on December 17, 1990. The Vyazemsky Forestry Technical School and the Vyazemsky Local History Museum were named after N. V. Usenko.
