Museum of the Railways of Russia
About museum
The Museum of the Railways of Russia is the country’s main railway museum and one of the largest in the world. It opened on October 30, 2017, in honor of the 180th anniversary of Russia’s railways. The museum is located on an area of more than 50,000 square meters and consists of two buildings — an old locomotive depot and a modern one — connected by a glass gallery with a suspension bridge. Tours feature a collection of rare and legendary steam locomotives, diesel and electric locomotives, passenger and freight cars, and other equipment. The centerpiece is a collection of 118 vehicles assembled over 30 years. The museum also displays models of the earliest Russian and foreign steam locomotives, as well as military and specialized equipment. On-site facilities include a café and a gift shop. Multimedia installations, interactive relaxation areas, and models help visitors learn about the history of railways and rail transport. The museum is a structural subdivision of the October Railway, a branch of OAO 'RZD'.
