Surazh Local History Museum
About museum
In 1990 the doors of the Surazh Local History Museum were opened to visitors. It is located in a two-storey brick building built in 1893, which was the merchant mansion of Moisey Itskovich Yudovich. This is one of the oldest and most beautiful architectural landmarks of the town with a distinctive design, a particular example of late 19th-century urban development. The museum has six exhibition halls and a display hall. It presents materials about the first Minister of Education of the Russian Empire, Count P. V. Zavadovsky, and about the famous composer N. A. Roslavets. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the Russian scientist and inventor in the fields of artillery, rocket technology, instrument engineering and automation, Lieutenant General K. I. Konstantinov, after whom a crater on the Moon is named.
