G. I. Choros-Gurkin Estate Museum
About museum
On January 12, 2006, the G. I. Choros-Gurkin Estate Museum — a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Altai named after A. V. Anokhin — was opened. Grigory Ivanovich Choros-Gurkin was a well-known artist of the Mountain Altai who lived and worked in the village of Anos from 1903 to 1937, where he built the estate at his own expense. It included a residential house, studio-workshop, aïl, garden, pond, utility buildings and an apiary. Here the master's famous works were created; "Anos Evenings" were held, and a library operated. The estate was confiscated after the artist's arrest and execution, and in 1956, after his rehabilitation, attempts were made to restore it. However, only in 2006, thanks to the National Museum named after A. V. Anokhin, was the decision made to establish the G. I. Choros-Gurkin Estate Museum as a branch.
