Simbirsk Photography Museum
About museum
The museum is located on the grounds of the former estate of A. I. Sakharov. Since 1904 there was a photographic studio here, and at house No. 28 on Bebelya Street was the well-known photographer Kaganin. Upon entering the museum, the visitor steps into a photographic pavilion of the late 19th–early 20th century. Here you can see a reception room furnished with antique furniture, a large mirror in a carved frame, an office desk and a sofa — all of which belonged to the family of a hereditary photographer. The second hall presents the history of the development of photography in Ulyanovsk, as well as many old photographs, albums and cameras. Here you can also imagine yourself as a photography salon client and be photographed in period costumes. Elements of 19th-century estate architecture have been recreated on the museum grounds, and there is also a gallery of contemporary photographic art. Here you can see genuine monuments of the history of photography and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past.
