Livadia Palace Museum
About museum
The Grand Livadia Palace is the imperial family's summer residence, built in 1909–1911 to a design by Yalta architect Nikolai Krasnov. It is located at an altitude of 121 meters above sea level and is surrounded by a 46-hectare landscaped park. The estate was acquired for Tsar Alexander II in 1861, after which extensive construction works were carried out. The park and various buildings were laid out, including a church, houses for the grand dukes, the retinue and the gardener, a kitchen and other utility structures. The family of Alexander II came to Livadia almost every year, calling it the summer capital. In 1909 a decision was made to demolish the old palace and erect a new, larger one. Architect Krasnov gave the palace features of Italian Renaissance architecture.
