The museum 'Simbirsk Chuvash School. Apartment of I. Ya. Yakovlev' is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding educator I. Ya. Yakovlev. Today the museum houses six exhibitions: Memorial Apartment of the I. Ya. Yakovlev Family; Memorial Classroom of the Simbirsk Chuvash Teachers' School; the ethnographic exhibition Culture and Everyday Life of the Chuvash of the Simbirsk Region at the End of the 19th – Beginning of the 20th Century; the documentary exhibition History of the Simbirsk Chuvash Teachers' School; the documentary exhibition The Personality and Family of A. V. Zhirkevich in the History of the Fatherland; and Fairy Mirror World. Visitors can learn about the traditions of the Chuvash people, the descendants of I. Ya. Yakovlev, the history of the Simbirsk Chuvash Teachers' School, as well as about the lawyer, writer, poet, publicist, archivist and collector A. V. Zhirkevich. I. Ya. Yakovlev was an ethnographer, collector and researcher of folklore who gathered and recorded folk tales, songs, proverbs and sayings.
