Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Gogolevsky Boulevard
About museum
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art is the first state museum in Russia dedicated to artistic creation of the 20th and 21st centuries. It was opened on December 15, 1999 with the support of the Moscow Government and the city's Department of Culture. Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, became the museum's founder and director. The museum's initial collection was Tsereteli's personal collection, consisting of 2,000 works by 20th-century artists. Since then the museum's holdings have expanded significantly and today form one of the most representative collections of Russian 20th-century art. The museum is located across four venues in the historic center of Moscow, including the building of the Russian Academy of Arts on Gogolevsky Boulevard. The museum actively participates in the capital's artistic life and enjoys wide public recognition.
