The M. Frolov Museum of the History of Children's Art Education of the Urals was established on the basis of a school with a special, almost century-long history — Children's Music School No. 1. It is the oldest school in the Urals and the first in Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk), opened in 1931 at the initiative of M. Frolov (1892–1944) — an outstanding musical figure of his time, composer and teacher, a pupil of A. Glazunov and R. Glière. M. Frolov was instrumental in founding not only the first music school but also the Sverdlovsk State Academic Philharmonic, the Ural State Conservatory named after M. Mussorgsky, and the Sverdlovsk branch of the Union of Composers. Visitors to the museum can see unique exhibits that carefully preserve the memory of cultural figures from the beginning of the last century who had a significant influence on the development of Russian musical traditions in composition and performance and who laid the foundation for children's art education in the Urals. The museum develops and implements specialized museum programs primarily aimed at the school's students, their parents, and all those interested in the history of musical culture and children's art education in the Sverdlovsk region. The museum is a regular participant in the citywide multicultural project "Night of Museums." Its doors are open to residents and visitors of Yekaterinburg!
