The name 'Roerich Family Museum-Institute' indicates that it is not only a museum but also a research center dedicated to studying the heritage of great Russian figures. This museum is located in Academician Botkin's house on Vasilievsky Island, which N. K. Roerich visited occasionally. The museum's collections include about 15,000 items, including personal belongings, paintings, archaeological finds, photographs and other cultural valuables. The institution presents a permanent exhibition about members of the Roerich family, offers general and themed tours, exhibitions of contemporary artists, programs for schoolchildren and educational and scholarly publications. The museum holds seminars, lectures, concerts of classical and ethnic music, as well as the ethnographic program "Khozhenie po Rusi" ("Walking through Rus"). Exhibitions of works by N. and S. Roerich and other world masterpieces are held around the world.
