Boris Fyodorovich Frantsuzov
About museum
Boris Fyodorovich Frantsuzov was a Russian Soviet artist who worked in etching. He was one of the leading Russian graphic artists of the last third of the 20th century. Frantsuzov was born in the town of Kameshkovo in the Vladimir region. He was orphaned early: his father died in the war and his mother died in 1942. He was raised by his paternal grandparents in the village of Zauichye, which he regarded as his native home throughout his life. He lived there until he was fourteen.
Frantsuzov graduated from the Mstera Art School. After graduating, he worked as an artist-designer at the Kameshkovo weaving factory and taught drawing and drafting at the local eight-year school. At the same time he practiced painting in Vladimir at the studio of the artist Vladimir Yakovlevich Yukin. In 1970 Frantsuzov graduated from the Moscow Stroganov State Art and Industry Academy (named after S. G. Stroganov) and moved to Vladimir, where he lived for the rest of his life.
In the 1970s-1980s Frantsuzov headed the graphics section of the Vladimir Union of Artists and took part in many exhibitions at various levels — from regional to international. In 1986 he was awarded the title Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Boris Fyodorovich Frantsuzov died on March 12, 1993 in Vladimir from a serious heart condition.
